Topic: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

  • Nabbit rants a bit about how this movie has kept its weirdness and shock value despite the fact that it is 40 years old. Oktober points out that the visual concepts were already on the edge of the culture by citing David Bowie and Ziggy Stardust.

  • The music was a big part of the attraction that is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. We went around the table to talk about our favorite songs. Nabbit was a fan of the dance-able “The Time Warp.” Luke likes “Sweet Transvestite” for the shock value, but also he loves the little business and timing in “Dammit Janet.” Oktober likes “Over at the Frankenstein Place” because her grand mother liked that one the most (and that’s a story in its own right). Victoria enjoys the energy of “Hot Patootie” and the physical stylings of Meatloaf. Braydon talks about the Floor Show (which actually involves several songs) and Oktober loves the scene where RiffRaff and Magenta bust in.

  • There is some brief discussion about the sequel (!!!) called Shock Treatment. Everyone gets it in their head that it will be the next movie night…with costumes.

  • There’s some talk about Tim Curry’s current condition (he suffered a stroke in 2012) and his appearance in the 2016 remake.

  • The panel is lead down the path of understanding all the rules of a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show by our two experts Victoria and Braydon. We learn about the proper way to throw toast and how to yell at characters on the screen.

Would You Rather Wednesday (09-27-17)

Here is a new midweek segment featuring one panelist, one “Would You Rather…” question and one “Gold Ribbon Recommendation. This one has Oktober deciding on either a dramatic reading of Moby Dick or dancing in silly clothes. There’s also some minor debate on the pronunciation of a German outfit. As for the Gold Ribbon Recommendation it’s all about beer… Halloween themed beers.

Game: “Drink It” Or “Sink It” Challenge:

Apple Pie Moonshine

Using some commercially available moonshine Luke put together a little home steeped cocktail using cider, cinnamon, sugar and gala apples. After Nabbit got over the eclectic collection of glassware, which was purposeful, the panel got a snoot full. Luke talked about how it might be over cinnamon-ed because he used two cinnamon sticks and now thinks he should have stuck with just one. Major Monocle lost his breath for a minute, Nabbit compared it a bit to Fireball Whisky and Oktober enjoyed several shots of it. Luke talks about the chunks of apple in the mason jar and everyone wants to eat those after the show. Try out the recipe (the post before these show notes) and let us know what you think.

Would You Rather Wedesday (09-06-17)

Here is a new midweek segment featuring one panelist, one “Would You Rather…” question and one “Gold Ribbon Recommendation. Title: Adventure Vacations

Run Time: 19 min 07 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Major Monocle, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: Adventure Vacations

  • Oktober has always wanted to SCUBA dive in to the Blue Hole. Nabbit is OK with snorkeling around and exploring the reefs, but has concerns about diving too deep (he has a fear of Cthulu).

  • Major Monocle has his sights set on exploring the wilds of Alaska. Off Roading, Hiking, Hunting…but when everyone brings up Snowmobiling he suddenly gets a bit panicked. Winter survival is apparently not his strongest skill. Which makes the panel think about who to eat first.

  • Nabbit talks about some extreme sports like the Rollerblade suit. Nabbit was introduced to it via a Jackie Chan movie (Chinese Zodiac)…the same way that the panel got introduced to this “sport” in Operation Condor.

  • Major Monocle talks about the thrill of taking a high speed turn on a motorcycle. There is a great deal of discussion concerning the physics involved in such a maneuver. Then it gets crazy…the idea of combining all of these ideas together. Motorcycle + Rollerblade Suit + Wing Suit + Parachute = AMAZING!

Game:    TAG:  The Movie

In this game Luke has taken the little blurb that appears on movie posters that are supposed to help market the movie. But more often than not, people don’t even notice them. So lets see if the panelists can guess which movie goes with which tag line.
