Topic: Universal Monsters

After an epic intro about Gremlins the panel starts by clarifying the definition of the Universal Monsters, including: Dracula, Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Gill Man and several others. Major Monocle wants to see them all go up against Ivan Ooze.

Luke brings up the attempt to reboot these monsters into a shared cinematic universe that started with Tom Cruise in The Mummy, which makes Nabbit miss Brendan Fraiser soooooo much.

Luke also brings up that one of the glaring issues with this franchise is that we have had half a dozen Frankenstein movies in the last decade….a few to many perhaps. Oktober is interested to see what they might do with “The Bride” and Nabbit thinks it’s an inevitable spin-off.

Everybody talks about the various ways they can reboot “The Creature From The Black Lagoon” (soap opera/ Lifetime Movie is one favorite idea) and all the ways that CG will be used. From Jump Scares to CG spittle, it’s all there. Nabbit suggests that the producers take a note from the makers of “The Thing” and use practical effects.

Luke brings up the Invisible Man and how he doesn’t think it will translate to a modern audience, which leads to the obvious Hollow Man comparison. Nabbit brings up practical effects again, specifically referring to Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992) in which chewing gum plays a big part.

Game: “Drink It” Or “Sink It” Challenge: The June Bug

Nabbit notes a bit of foam on top, due to shaking. The color leads to several jokes about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and other forms of ooze. Oktober slams it back before anybody else can get to it, but once everybody downs it there is a round of enjoyable noises. Nabbit says that he would only do this kind of drink as a shot. Nabbit talks about adding whipped cream that would make it something more like a blow job shot. Luke talks briefly about the cocktail version of this drink. Try it out and let us know what you think. (The recipe is the previous post)
