Run Time: 14 min 23 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Major Monocle, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: Lunch

  • Oktober suggests that people have less time for their lunch breaks. Nabbit agrees, but talks about the need to escape. Meanwhile Major Monocle admits that he used lunch with his manager (at one time it was Nabbit) as an excuse to take longer lunches.

  • Oktober says that in her current job she spend a lot of time driving from place to place. Consequently she doesn’t have a defined lunch break and normally eats fast food on the run.

  • Luke talks about office workers eating at their desk and Nabbit says that in some places it’s “Highly suggested.” Nabbit talks about his wife’s job as a nurse…normally their food is catered by pharmaceutical reps. Unless someone forgets and then there are no alternatives…except for soup she keeps in her locker.

  • The panel goes back to discussing Oktober’s lunch/driving and the difficulty of eating Taco Bell….while driving. Pro skills are needed.

  • The Aftermath:

Game: The Drink It Or Sink It Challenge – Ft. Lauderdale

This drink was a poor pairing considering the brown bag lunch had a peanut butter sandwich in it. Luke quickly decided that this drink was not going to get a fair shake for two reasons…. #1 The idea of peanut butter and orange juice together. #2 He did not bring the roper glass for the drink (a double rocks glass) so the presentation was off. The panel couldn’t get into this for mostly those reasons. Give it a try and see what you think. (The recipe is posted before these show notes)

Recipe: Ft. Lauderdale

  • 1 1/2 oz White Rum

  • 1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth

  • 1/4 oz Lime Juice

  • 1 oz Orange Juice

  • Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin with ice. Give it a good swirl, possibly a shake.

  • Pour over ice in a double rocks glass. Garnish with an orange slice if desired.

Note: DO NOT serve with a peanut butter sandwich.

Title: Youthful Books

Run Time: 21 min 02 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Major Monocle, Nabbit

Topic: Influential Books of Your Youth

After Nabbit and Major Monocle debate the validity of text books, phone books and dictionaries in this topic, Oktober gets us started with the classic James Howe book, Bunnicula. Nabbit and Oktober both enjoyed the book and the cover art. Despite an odd animated version, it still holds a great place in the panels’ youthful heart (Except for Major Monocle, who doesn’t read).

Nabbit talks about Super Fudge (which Luke gets mixed up with Chocolate Fever), Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing… and the original versions of the Grimm’s Fairytales.

In an attempt to coax out anything relevant from Major Monocle’s youthful back log, Oktober starts proposing things like coloring books… Luke suggests Dr. Seuss..But Nabbit nails it with “Where’s Waldo?” as the Major’s most influential book.

Nabbit accuses Luke of baiting Oktober into talking about her love of “Where The Wild Things Are“… and Oktober explains that the book and it’s art style are still with here today. In other words, she doesn’t associate it with “just” her childhood.

Luke talks about how during his middle years (around twelve or so) he started reading the books of Dean Koontz. They were influential because they were fantastical stories with some complex themes….but not so complex that they were over powering. Dragon Tears is one that he cites as an example.

Nabbit brings up “Choose Your Own Adventure” books (Like Video Games, But On Paper!).

Oktober brings up something that really influenced her dark side when she was a kid…”Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark.”

Game: “Mis-Casting”

This is a game where we take a quick plot summary of a movie and choose actors who are unlikely and/or just bad choices for roles in those films. Let the hilarity ensue!

  • A Young Wizard gets trapped by an evil troll. Eventually escaping with the help of a magic fork and and a scullery maid.

  • The death of a gardener at a lumber magnate’s mansion leads a police detective down a rabbit hole of intrigue.

  • Fleeing a planet wide civil war, a smuggler  (and his robot side kick) crash land on a strange planet filled with bizzare creatures and natives.

Title: Season 2 Begins…City Vs. Country

Run Time: 20 min 26 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Major Monocle, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: City Living Vs. Country Living

  • Luke talks about the joys of  food delivery, an essential part of modern living. Nabbit brings up traffic slowing things down enough that living in the city is almost as inconvenient as living in the country.

  • Socializing is another big theme in this debate. In the country you can get all your friends together and have a bonfire and barbecue….bonfires are frowned upon in the city. So you adjust your social scene and hit the pubs and clubs.

  • The panels ultimate conclusions were:

Oktober: Country

Major Monocle: Country

Luke: Country (with a Bunker)

Nabbit: Middle Ground (Suburbs)

Game: “Be The Tree You Want To Be…”

A game about silly questions and scenarios that will bend your mind in some new and interesting shapes.
