Topic: Things that are only OK on Halloween

  • Major Monocle points out that his choice of camisole is not questioned on Halloween. His color choices are however. Nabbit trolls Luke a bit on this point.

  • Oktober points out that one of the strangest things that is OK on Halloween is taking candy from strangers. The rest of the year parents are telling kids not to talk to strangers, but at this point in the year its fine. Lots of jokes are made about this classic trope.

Game: Commonalities

In this game we list three things and try to guess what they have in common.

Title: Nightmares and We Meet Alexander

Run Time: 20 min 22 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit, Major Monocle

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: Nightmares and Sleep Paralysis

  • Major Monocle makes jokes about having his body jerk around right before he drifts off to sleep…which leads to a bunch of jokes about his bedroom habits. (BTW that is called a hypnagogic jerk.)

  • After listening to descriptions of the ways that people experience sleep paralysis Nabbit points out that it’s the brains fault. He feels betrayed because we’re supposed to be resting and then the brain starts this mess going!

  • And what about people who can hold conversations while asleep… Nabbit shares a great story of one of the strangest conversations he ever had with his wife. This leads to a the panel talking about how to test if they are actually conversing with you or not.

Game: The “Drink It” Or “Sink It” Challenge

Meet Alexander the Pumpkin. Based loosely on a Brandy Alexander this drink got fair reviews from the panel. The base alcohol was the Pumpkin Face Reserve Rum that the panel did shots of during and after the podcast. Nabbit would have liked it more if it had been more chilled. Oktober really liked it but thought that adding some chocolate to it would work (Luke decides that it would be a ‘Tober Special). Tell us what ya think …the recipe is available in the previous post to these show notes.

Alexander the Pumpkin

1 1/2 oz Pumpkin Face Reserve

1 1/2 oz Half and Half

Few shakes of Cinnamon

Few shakes of Nutmeg

  • Combine the Pumpkin Face Reserve with the half and half in a mixing tin filled with ice.

  • Put in a few healthy shakes of cinnamon and nutmeg.

  • Stir the combined ingredients.

  • Strain into a snifter and enjoy.

Run Time: 30 min 17 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit, Major Monocle

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: Ghosts- Movies and Tropes

  • References to The Exorcist are made….but we’re not posting those scenes here(but you can get all the info from IMDB). Here’s the trailer.

  • Luke gets accused of being a “ghost elitist” for calling into question whether the movie House is really a ghost movie.

  • Luke brings up The Others and 1408 as examples of movies that are different from the standard horror fare.

  • Both Major Monocle and Oktober bring up Thirteen Ghosts and Nabbit and Luke try to remember the details of the story.

Game: FAKE News: Paranormal Edition

  • In this game, Luke has written several fake news stories. The final detail in the story is to be filled in by the panelists. The stories often take  weird swing, especially with this group. So here are the basic stories that the panel had to work with.

  • A witness claims that the house of his now deceased uncle is haunted. Upon arriving at the residence to hear the reading of the will he was greeted by someone claiming to be the butler. The witness claims he then did what that revealed he was a ghost?

  • Is an old pawn shop haunted? Local proprietors revealed a video made last night that shows what they believe to be a spirit. What was that spirit doing in that old pawn shop?

  • Local trick or treaters got a fright when they discovered a discarded sack in the driveway of the MacNeil residence. Witnesses reported a liquid oozing from the sack and called the police. What did the police find on that drive way?

  • An attendant at a local animal shelter was witnessed,  on camera, running out of the building last night. Police detained the man after he was reportedly running down Main street screaming incoherently. A few moments into his detainment Police said that he had told them what had caused him to run out of the building. According to the Police, what did the attendant say drove him from the building?

  • Experts from the state university were called in to investigate strange banging sounds heard in the county courthouse. Local investigators could find no reasons for the sounds. After a few hours the experts discovered the likely reason for the noises, were what?

Title: Bloody Mary and Other Fun

Run Time: 20 min 24 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit, Major Monocle

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: Bloody Mary, Divination and More

  • Oktober tells everyone about her time in elementary school and the how the urban legend was much talked about in the gymnasium girls’ bathroom (Nabbit questions whether the lights were always flickering).

  • As Oktober and Luke start to talk the origin of these types of “divination games” Nabbit begins to struggle with using the term “game.” As he puts it…”Summoning dead little girls is not a game.”

  • Oktober brings up table tipping, which is not something that a lot of people know about. The spirits supposedly answer questions by tapping on the table (1 for yes, 2 for no, etc).

Game: The “Drink It” or “Sink It” Challenge : The Bloody Mary

Nabbit was shocked that he didn’t see this one coming. Oktober loves this version of a Bloody Mary. Major Monocle can’t get passed the tomato-i-ness of this kind of drink. Nabbit is just perplexed by the idea of celery as a garnish. Luke brings up the fact that Bloody Marys are a divisive drink: either you like them or you don’t.

Recipe: Bloody Mary

  • 2 oz Vodka

  • 3 dashes of Frank’s Red Hot

  • Bloody Mary Mix

  • Mrs Dash

  • Celery stalk (for garnish)

  • 2 Lemon Wedges (one for  garnish, one for rimming)

  • Shake Mrs Dash onto a plate. Rub the rim of a pint glass with a lemon wedge. Roll the rim of the glass in the Mrs Dash.

  • Put ice into the glass. Dash Frank’s Red Hot into the glass. Then pour the Blood Mary mix into the glass.

  • Add Vodka to mixture.

  • Garnish with celery stalk and lemon wedge.
