Topic:  What Happens when a Hobby becomes a Profession…

The article that started Luke thinking about this…

Major Monocle brings up the idea of starting a youtube channel about video games with Nabbit. However, Nabbit has concerns because it might take the joy out of it.

This leads to a conversation about E-Sports. From training for it to the age factor.

Oktober talks about how her hobby became a small time gig, but if she wanted to do it on a larger scale it would consume her life entirely. Major Monocle throws out the old trope, “If you do something you love, you never work a day in your life.” But the panel doesn’t buy it.

The time put into turning your hobby into a profession is that it goes from something you do to your free time to taking all your time.

Nabbit gets goaded into discussing his dream job of being a house flipper, which sets off a series of dolphin jokes.

Game: “Drink It” Or “Sink It” Challenge

In honor of Cinco De Mayo we put together a Golden Cadillac Margarita. The recipe is here. Oktober enjoys the tartness, Major Monocle finished it (and continued to lick the rim the rest of the show) in about 25 seconds. Nabbit….well he doesn’t remember drinking it (Tequila is his forget-me-not).

The Golden Cadillac Margarita

  • 1 1/2 oz Lime Juice (which is about 1 to 2 limes depending on their size)

  • 1 1/2 oz Patron

  • 1/2 oz Grand Marnier

  • Gold (or Any Color) Sanding Sugar

  • 2 orange wheels (1 for garnish, other for rimming the glass)

  • Start by rimming the glass. Pour some sugar on a plate. Take and orange wheel and rub it on the outside of the glass. Dip the glass rim into the sugar and roll it around.

  • Fill the rimmed glass with cracked ice and set aside.

  • Fill a mixing tin with ice and add the Patron, Grand Marnier and lime juice. Shake well and strain into your rimmed glass.

  • Garnish with an orange wheel. (And for the sake of all that is sexy don’t drink this through a straw!)

Title: High Fantasy and Epic Tales Along with Facts and Fictions

Run Time: 23 min 01 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit, Major Monocle

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic:  High Fantasy and Epic Tales

  • Oktober goes off on the idea of the contrived warrior woman. One example is Alice in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (seriously, this girl suddenly becomes a crazed badass…kinda outta nowhere). As Oktober stated…”Just have a female character where that was always her propensity to be that way, don’t suddenly switch up the game, where she suddenly knows how to wield a sword.”

  • A quick discussion starts about some of the basic parts of a high fantasy adventure. An Epic journey, good versus evil, the orphan who finds out about their destiny. The Black Cauldron is mentioned as an example of where some of the gray areas start to show in between the black and white tropes.

Games: Fact or Fiction?

In this game the panel has to decide whether these statements are completely true or a fiction. Sometimes there will be a small misleading bit in the statement which will cause it to be fiction, so pay close attention.

Title: Food that Doesn’t Taste Like It Should

Run Time: 22 min 52 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic:  Food That Doesn’t Taste Like It Should

  • Nabbit has issues with scented candles. Especially the candles at Bob Evans that smell like Pancakes and Syrup. Or the ones that smell like Bacon. It’s not that they aren’t pleasing scents, its more the fact that he can actually taste them in the air. Oktober is against food scented candles, preferring floral or pine scents.

  • Nabbit also relates his most recent experience with the medical community and their opinion on what bananas should taste like. (You’ll have to hear it to understand it, but it’s totally worth it).

Game:  The Wishlist

This game involved homework for the panel. They put together several products, both real and fake, and everyone tries to decide whether they are talking about an actual product or if they just made it up, but really want it.

Title: Not For Kid Coloring Books and Building-A-Bar

Run Time: 20 min 41 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic:  Adult Coloring Books

  • Like any trend it probably started a long time ago, faded away and then came back. Adult Coloring books are no different. We can look back to the 60’s for its first awakening.

  • Oktober talks about Zentangles and how they relate to the some of the more popular Adult Coloring books. Oktober also thinks that the calming effect that is supposed to accompany this practice explains the rise of ASMR video’s on youtube. (Editors note: She mistakenly calls them ASR videos)

  • Nabbit brings up the point that essentially a coloring book is a paint by numbers type activity that is good as a solitary activity, but would not be as stimulating if you tried to get a bunch of adults in a room to do it. Oktober points out that groups do exist but Nabbit isn’t really convinced.

Game: The  “Build-A-Bar Workshop” Fantasy Workshop

This is a game where we try to come up with ideas for a bar concept. From uniforms to decor, to drinks to food, we try to match it all to the theme. This episode’s theme is Mad Science. take a listen and feel free to add your ideas in the comments.

Title: The Hoaxes, Histories and What You’re Into

Run Time: 19 min 36 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic:  Famous April Hoaxes

  • The first hoax on the list is all about easy weight loss. It involved losing weight through your feet, via Fat Sox.

  • And then Oktober segues into another fantastical animal that you could see…A Unicorn. Or at least a close approximation that she remembers from 1985.

  • And speaking of animals…Luke throws out the hoax that had “scientists” trying to push viagra like medications….for hamsters. Despite the lunacy of the story the name of the fake product was pretty good….Feralmone.

  • When did a country have major financial issues happen because of a hoax? Apparently in 2002 the Canadian dollar took a dive because of a hoax that said the finance minister was going to resign his position and go off to raise cattle and ducks. Totally fake…but one thing that isn’t (As pointed out by Nabbit)….the Canadian Dollar (The “Loonie”) smells like maple syrup.

  • And then there is the historical “fact” that President Millard Fillmore had a bathtub installed in the Whitehouse in 1850, thereby making it more popular with the American people. Great story, but totally false. Author H.L. Mencken spent years trying to set the record straight, but people kept printing it as fact.
