  • Oktober loves Donato’s…mainly because the piling on of the fresh toppings.

  • The beloved toppings of the group varied widely. Spinach was debated, Major Monocle was not down for that at all. Mushrooms were divisive (it came down to canned versus fresh). Major Monocle is very specific about his sausage (it’s gotta be Italian sausage).

  • The panel name drops their favorites…Major Monocle enjoys Papa Johns. Oktober (as previously mentioned) loves Donato’s. Luke goes for Jet’s Pizza whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Game: Tweet Beat Threesome

The panel has to discern fact from funny, or at least try to figure out who posted these tweets, the Science Channel, Food and Wine Magazine or the Onion.

Topic:  In The News….

  • A story out of Sweden shows that sometimes loud sex is good for everyone. A tweet to the  Swedish Minister of Health started a conversation about how sex affects the health of a nation. Major Monocle thinks he sees a new job opportunity….being the guy who goes around and asks if the Swedes are getting enough “intimate” time.

Game: The Tweet Beat Face-Off

The panel has to discern fact from funny, or at least try to figure out who posted these tweets, the L.A. Times or the Onion.

Run Time: 23 min 30 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit, Major Monocle

Topic:  Future Tech

  • Oktober wants what everybody’s thinking but nobody’s saying…sex robots. She specifically brings up Gigolo Joe. Nabbit doesn’t think it’s a good idea, because of the Uncanny Valley. Luke wonders whether Cherry 2000 should be considered a documentary if it happens.

  • Major Monocle is thinking of handy things for interstellar travel. Like artificial gravity. Or Faster than Light travel…although Oktober pokes a few holes into that one and Nabbit fears it becoming a real life Event Horizon.

  • Luke wants new batteries. Battery technology hasn’t changed in decades. Nabbit thinks that the movie Knight and Day showed us that we’re not ready for this technological advancement yet.

  • Nabbit just wants some cell coverage. He wants to be able to make a call even if he’s in the valley. Major Monocle points out that when he was a kid they didn’t have smart phones, and now years later we’ve made that advancement. Nabbit points out that he still can’t reliably make a phone call. Here’s hoping we can make that leap.

  • A big idea out there right now. Self driving cars. Nabbit begins to explain some of the challenges that Google’s car has encountered…We like to call it the crazy cat lady conundrum. Major Monocle and Luke look forward to just the idea of the car taking over on long car trips. Plus there is the consideration of what we could do with all this free time during our commute.

The Powder Monkey

pm-ingred

The Pint:

  • 4 to 5 oz of sweet tea

  • Juice from a lemon wedge

The Shot:

  • 1 1/2 oz Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum

  • Small amount (approx 1/2 a teaspoon) of Bacardi 151 (for ignition purposes only)

  • Cinnamon

Directions:

  • Combine all the Pint ingredients and stir. Set to the side.

  • Pour the Sailor Jerry’s Spiced rum into a sturdy shot glass. Take a spoon and hold it near the top of the liquor. Pour a small amount of Bacardi 151 across the back of the spoon. ( I prefer to pour it from a small measuring cup, easier to control the amount).

  • Light the shot on fire (I prefer a long utility lighter, less chance of getting burned). Sprinkle the cinnamon over the shot glass from a safe height.

  • Carefully lift the shot glass over the rim of the pint and carefully, but swiftly drop the shot into the pint. Enjoy.

Topic:  Your Greatest Video Game Achievement

Oktober hasn’t been the same since 1983….the first day she beat Dragon’s Lair. She wants everyone to support the indiegogo page for a new Dragon’s Lair movie. Nabbit wants Nathon Fillion to voice Dirk the Daring.

Luke’s greatest achievement involved overcoming his complete lack of rhythm… actually being adequate at Bust-A-Groove (in Japan it was called Bust- A- Move).  Oktober reminds everyone that Luke used to play Hiro (although Luke didn’t quite remember). The first time he publicly revealed his adequate-ness in a tournament he got Pinky’s level, needless to say…he lost.

Major Monocle spent 3 YEARS (!!!) working on getting one item in Final Fantasy XI (trigger warning for game addicts)… the legendary Black Belt. The Major resists the urge to return to the magical world…every time you mention it he twitches a bit.

Nabbit relives his proudest achievement…doing the impossible. Stopping what was thought to be unstoppable. He actually managed to get a Warthog from HALO stuck on a rock. Not just stuck, but perfectly stuck.

Nabbit brings up the lack of excitement that achievements bring him. that and how he can’t really play single player games anymore, because he need witnesses.

Game: “Drink It” or “Sink It” Challenge

The Powder Monkey was a flaming success. Especially because Luke managed not to burn the bar or the house down. This drink involves lighting the shot on fire and then dropping it into a glass of banana flavored sweet tea. The recipe, pictures and a video tutorial are forth coming.
