Title:  Tiny Houses and Fairytale Bars…

Run Time: 24 min 38 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit, Major Monocle

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic:  Tiny Living, Movement or Fad….

  • Some base information on the issues of Tiny Living

  • Oktober makes the point that people like their stuff… and tiny houses just don’t fill that need.

Segment: “The Fantasy Build-A-Bar Workshop”

This was a mental exercise for the panel. We spend some time discussing a bar concept based around a theme. This weeks is “Fairy Tales” (this theme came about because of the Enchanted Forest from Galavant). Oktober wants the decor to be very tree like with animatronic woodland creatures. That idea reminded Luke of The Rain Forest Cafe and Nabbit thought it sounded like the Snuggly Duckling from Tangled. The Fairy Godmother/ Bouncer was a unique idea dreamed up by Nabbit. And then came the drink ideas. “The Glass Slipper” Vodka Martini, “The Seven Dwarves” Beer Flight, The Wicked Step-Sister Bloody Mary. And you’ll have to listen to the actual podcast to hear all the furry jokes.

Title:  Delivery, Shut-Ins And What You’re Into

Run Time: 23 min 38 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit, Major Monocle

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic:  Instant Delivery: Good, Bad, or the Other…

  • Amazon is ancient…but Oktober remembers when talking heads said that eventually you would never need to leave the house for anything….

  • Nabbit thinks it isn’t there yet…mainly because the prices are still more expensive than traditional grocery stores. <CNET did an interesting test of this>

  • Oktober gets to the meat and potatoes of the matter… Home delivery can be dangerous to shut-ins. Or the best thing ever….

  • Nabbit is waiting on prepared food delivery…like GrubHub, Eat24, Seamless…. not to mention non prepared food companies like Blue Apron or Plated….So maybe the future is now?

  • The panel has some novel ideas about the way the world works in Demolition Man

Final Segment: So….What’re you Into?

Title:  Needs, Habits and Drinks

Run Time: 19 min 20 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit

Topic:  Habits, Tools, Awareness of Said Habits….

Oktober has an odd notion about what is awesome….well they are pretty awesome.

What both Oktober and Luke need to get through their day..Katy Perry’s Big Balloons.

Nabbit feels the need to eat….every day, multiple times a day. Which bring up other important lessons…such as Don’t Starve and I am Bread.

Oktober really needs to hear this every day…Sara by Fleetwood Mac…to get into the zone. Nabbit went through a phase where this was his zen song (not this one)

Luke has his routine….which normally involves a nice cup of tea.

Nabbit’s wife ticked a few items off the odd habits list for him to share with the group…Q-tips, gotta scratch that itch.

Luke has a multi-tool no more than 25 feet from him at just about all times.

Nabbit is a bit obsessive with his everyday wardrobe….always wearing a cotton A shirt…. under his normal shirt.

Game: The “Drink It” or “Sink It” Challenge

The panel got to enjoy (and enjoy they did) the Pineapple Upside Down Cake cocktail. Nabbit marveled at the name, and the end result that it actually tasted like cake (despite a touch too much grenadine). Take a look at the recipe and give it a try.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

  • 1 1/2 oz Pinnacle Cake Vodka

  • 4 oz  Pineapple Juice

  • 1/4 oz simple syrup

  • splash of grenadine

  • cherries (for garnish)

  • Pour some grenadine into the bottom of a glass. Then fill the glass with ice.

  • Pour the  Pinnacle Cake vodka, pineapple juice and simple syrup into a mixing tin with ice.

  • Shake well and strain into the glass. Garnish with cherries (remember always garnish with odd numbers)

Title: Food, Music and Your Dining Experience..

Run Time: 18 min 14 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: Music and Food….

  • After convincing Nabbit that this show wasn’t about chinese food….except for the fact that it came about in a previous podcast ( Show 12-04-15 ) that music and your dining experience can inform upon each other…

  • Oktober gives an example of the music of a restaurant or bar setting the mood or to help convince you that you are getting an “authentic” experience (i.e. Olive Garden )

  • Then there’s this study….the type of music can improve the taste and the amount of food you want to eat….

Game: “Drink It” or “Sink It” Challenge

The panel gets to enjoy the “Warm Cherry Pie” (As Oktober notes RIP Jani Lane ) which features tart cherry juice, Ole Smoky Cherry Moonshine, Razzmatazz and whipped cream. A warming drink with a nice kick. Everyone enjoyed this one and we’d like to know what you think, so give it a try. (The recipe is right here )

  • Whipped Cream

  • Take the Tart Cherry Juice and microwave it in a mug for 30-45 seconds. (You want it warm not boiling)

  • Add the simple syrup, Razzmatazz and the Ole Smoky Cherry Moonshine in the mug and stir.

Note: Before drinking I recommend stirring the whipped cream a bit first. Adds a nice creamy texture.

Title: Best Advice and Bar Names You Might Believe

Run Time: 23 min 51 secs

Host: Luke Rodgers

Panelists: Oktober, Nabbit

Click Here To Play! (or Right click to download!)

Topic: Best Advice You’ve Ever Gotten…

  • The best advice that Luke ever received was “It’s legal as long as the ref don’t see it.” The panel ultimately decides that it can be taken different ways. (i.e. Cheat if you can get away with it. Or, don’t obsess about the rules.)

  • “What looks good isn’t necessarily good. What look’s bad may not be necessarily bad.” Nabbit sees this little nugget of wisdom as a way to make people feel better.

  • Nabbit got great advice from his doctor…”Step 1: Don’t Die.” Or to put it another way, as per Oktober, “Don’t turn into a pile of bones.” (back to Dragon’s Lair of course)

  • Nabbit is inspired by the Ewan McGregor film “The Impossible” to remember that “When you’re feeling that things are at their worst…. at least you’re not in a Tsunami!”

  • Oktober get’s some sage advice from Sheryl Crow at just the right time in her life in just the right context.
